Knitter's Review

A Swatch Mitt hugs a mug of Assam tea

Knitters have a conflicted relationship with swatching. Some love it dearly, while others view it as one step short of a root canal.

Me? I'm a serial swatcher. It's a daily meditation that keeps my world intact. And this week I promulgate the Swatcher's Manifesto.

Swatch Mitts
For those who need the satisfaction of knitting useful items, but also want a quality swatching experience, I have a solution: Swatch Mitts. Written for knitting both flat and in the round, the simple pattern walks you through two swatches that become a lovely little pair of fingerless mitts. They require just 80 yards of any worsted- or Aran-weight yarn, making them ideal one-skein projects for luxury yarns too. You can find the pattern on Ravelry or buy it here.

Heifer Fundraiser
Our year-end Heifer International fundraiser is well underway, and I thank each of you who has joined me already in contributing to this worthy cause. Haven't heard about it yet, or want to know more? Here are all the details.

In the Forum: Getting Snippy
Jan is looking for a pair of compact thread-snippers that she can put in knitting accessory cases as gifts. She hasn't had much luck finding any, but others have offered great suggestions.
