My name is Cindy, I've been reading Clara's reviews for a couple of years and appreciate them very much as I HATE SWATCHING. There I said it. Anyway, I'm from Connecticut, I have been knitting off and on for about 30 years, since I was eight and my aunt from Maine taught me. She could knit a sweater in an evening. She was amazing. Of course, she knitted continental. Unfortunately, over the years I switched to "throwing" instead of "picking". Eh, someday I'll gather enough speed to be able to make adult sweaters. Right now, I stick with baby patterns. I love the look of Debbie Bliss designs. I am far too busy and uncreative to develop my own designs, with two toddlers, aged 1.5 and 2.5! Thanks for the great website...Happy Knitting!

Hi Cindy, and welcome!
I don't like swatching either. I would rather rip out a few inches of a sweater that is turning out wrong than make that little swatch!
Aren't Clara's reviews great? Have you read her books too?
I am sure you will enjoy the forum--so many generous knitters with such a wealth of experience!
Looking forward to your posts,

Gelliott

Welcome to the Forums, Cindy!

I agree with you about Debbie Bliss patterns for little ones: somehow the photos make me just want to eat them, they are so sweet!

I think you will enjoy the KR Forums. And I am awed by your aunt knitting a sweater in an evening: what would you say her gauge was? Surely she couldn't have been using sock yarn or other lightweight yarn? Just asking, not disbelieving!

Welcome to the forum from northern New England (Maine)! I'm another swatching hater, and rarely do it, although it may come back to haunt me on my current project (a sweater for DIL). Hope you enjoy the forum and find much support and inspiration.

Thanks very much for the welcome!

As for my Aunt, she's passed away or I would ask her...I think she mostly knit with red heart yarn - huge skeins of it - she just knit lightning fast without looking most of the time - I have no idea of the other details!
