Tip 1: Go. Tip 2: Bring arms to carry things. Tip 3: Run into me so I can say hello!
I actually brought a thermos of tea last year and it changed everything. Suddenly in the afternoon when I felt my energy slip, and when I'd usually stand in line for not so great coffee, I picked up a scone in the gourmet building, found a bench where I could watch people, and had a pretty fantastic afternoon break. That's the only possible tip I can imagine, although most people are sane enough not to need this.

Apparently, I'm not THAT sane. Thanks for the tip. Are you going to be some particular place? and/or is there another site with maps and layouts?

How many color combinations of Color Affection did you see?
What a sad picture...the empty building after the merchants have cleared out of Rhinebeck on Sunday!
But, like baseball, there is always next year!!!

If I used the term "bucket list" Rhinebeck would be on mine. I've been through the area on the way to Vermont. It is so gorgeous this time of year.. Every year I treat myself to some Rhinebeck yarn I discover on a blog or in a column. So by only buying from one vendor, I'm actually saving money :-0 |

Rhinebeck is on my bucket list! One of these days!! Clara, I just finished reading your account of Rhinebeck and - honest to God - I had tears in my eyes as I read the last paragraph. (You are going to write a novel someday, right?) I also spent a couple hunnert $ I don't have when I stopped at Solitude Wool while strolling through Rhinebeck with you. No plans for what I bought, but I just had to have it. Yellow Leicester wool? I'll go hungry for a few weeks to be able to possess that! I'll get a hat and scarf, maybe even mittens out of what I purchased. Thanks for calling it to my attention!
One of these days....
ETA: I got my Solitude yarn on SATURDAY! Talk about FAST! It is every bit as beautiful as I hoped it would be. My husband wanted to know why all the yarn was in our bed Saturday night... then he made me put it away. Feh! It would have been so soft and warm with all that in the bed with me, and I had it all on my side. You'd think after all these years.... |

I heard about Clara and the Slinky Mink at Still River ... she was distracted by the pink Slinky Mink bra. I was buried in the fair-trade cashmere and it took Luann a while to pry me away. If you can imagine that ...

I've been asked to knit two Slinky Mink bras for the Remarkable R's, who some of you have watched grow up into beautiful young women through our many years of going to Rhinebeck together. I'm not quite sure how this is going to go...

Slinky Mink + those two beautiful women = big trouble for somebody, Jane!
It was my first Rhinebeck and I couldn't have had a more perfect time, thanks to my tour guide Nutmeg Owl, who made sure I hit all the high points. About the only thing I missed was Miss Clara herself, but from the looks of her writeup, we walked the same paths.
Chris, Solitude was one of the highlights for me. They were the only vendor on my "must see" list - I was on a tight budget and wanted to save it for yarns I'd never met in person. They didn't disappoint. I spent most of my budget there, on Targhee for a scarf for Mr. Luann, a skein of orange Targhee for Little Luann (who asked that I bring him back something in his favorite color) and enough of their Dorset sock blend to make a (large) pair of socks for Mr. Luann.

I'd been dreaming of Rhinebeck for years, and finally made it up there last weekend. What a treat! It was everything I thought it wpuld be and more. The weather was magnificent and the vendors friendly. Everything was PERFECT and we're already planning next year's trip - 4 days this time!

Oh my! Jane, that will be an experience. I few of my fairy-god-daughters are now young women rather than little girls, and while I'm so proud of who they are, it is a little tough to reconcile myself to some aspects of their maturity.
Luann, isn't Solitude fantastic? I love their yarns, and their methods.
I had a great time. It was wonderful to see so many friends. I treated myself to another set of Sheila Ernst glass circulars, a gorgeous new niddy noddy, and an accidental sweater's worth of yarn. I also managed to buy a half dozen presents, so that was good. As usual, Rhinebeck flew by. I can't wait to see folks at the Retreat and have more time with everyone.

Rhinebeck is my 2nd favorite weekend of the year (the KR retreat is my first)
I am having that post Rhinebeck letdown though which can only be fixed by going to the retreat.

Oh, god, Clara's review this year just about killed me. I've been curious about Rheinbeck since I first heard about it, but now I'm lusting for it.
