Cat's book is finally here! I offer this humble Knitter's Review take on her latest sock opus...
With some knitting books, you can open them up, pick a pattern, cast on, and knit your merry way into the sunset. Others make you learn a new way of doing things first—and then you get to pick a pattern and play. Cat Bordhi's books always seem to fall in the latter category.
Not because Cat is a cruel taskmistress. She just sees the world a little differently. You or I might stare at an apple and say, "Yup, that's an apple," but Cat would tilt her head sideways, smile, and exclaim, "Look, two butterflies coated in honey!" And then you see it too, but only after she pointed it out.
Give her another five minutes and she'll already have converted its angles into a stitch pattern and figured out how it could be incorporated into the instep of a sock. Just because.

Does anybody else have a copy yet? Are you planning to, or are you not a Cat person? (Pardon the pun...)

I just clicked through to order it, thanks! I am a Cat person so to speak - her Socks Soar book changed my knitting world, and after taking her moebius workshop at my first KR Retreat, I found myself looking at my knitting in a whole new way. Even if I don't knit any of her patterns, learning about her process is always so interesting and makes me ask questions of myself the next time I pick up the needles. Thanks for the review!

I'm ordering a copy this morning, because I really, really want to be an insouciant knitter. Audrey Hepburn in "Breakfast at Tiffany's" anyone? No, really, I love it that Cat turns everything inside out or upside down, and that it works.

I WANT to be a sock knitter. I've tried to be several times. I've knit one sock on dp's, one sock on 2 circ's, one sock on magic loop. When I discovered 2 socks, toe up on magic loop (thanks ArtsyFish!) I thought ahha! this is IT!!! and I knit a pair, yes 2 completed socks that I've worn...but alas it was not to be.
When I saw Cat's youtube video a few weeks ago I got excited again. Maybe I really CAN BE a sock knitter. Maybe I can use the huge tub of sock yarn for SOCKS!
I can't wait to get my hands on this book.

I'm a sock knitter but definitely not a Cat person. Have fun with the new toys, folks, I don't envy you a bit.

Actually I thought it had to do with the Fall Recipe thread. You know, knit socks while you cook soup. Or sauce.

I am usually intrigued by Cat's socks (yes, I have her first "Pathways" book) but these socks seem, after having watched the videos, to be a little strange.
Firstly, I'm not cetain about how I, personally, would enjoy hving a heel closed with a 3-needle bind off. Maybe I'm a little like the "Princess and the Pea" but I'm sure I wouldn't enjoy having a ridge poking into my heel.
Secondly, am I the only one who thinks that the after-thought leg, while seeming very simple to execute, looks rather weird? Maybe it is better on the actual foot (and it does appear to look fine on the model) but the leg seems to be narrower than the foot when it is not worn.
All that being said, this does sound a very intriguing book and I would like to have a look at it and will probably end up buying it.

I was planning on buying it as soon as I heard about it at Sock Summit... but then, I have enjoyed different sock knitting methods, and not just Cat's... though she DOES come up with the most intriguing ideas! And that is part of the charm of trying to understand the creativity of her thought processes!
I admit that the whole moebius thing more or less did me in; I like them when I see them, but doing all that wrapping on a long cable needle to produce one seemed under-enthralling to me. The initial socks thing, though, turned me into a sock knitter, and I grabbed the second sock book as fast as I could. Right now, I am frustrated, because Amazon is sold out! I am trying to decide whether to wait until they re-stock (I'm an Amazon Prime member, but since I live in WA, I have to pay sales tax), or order from someone out of state who can get it to me NOW.
I actually understood this whole concept from the videos, and could envision doing it without buying the book, but I am not sure about the heel bind-off, either, and don't understand why we have to do it that way?

I not only looked up the word (in an online dictionary), I went to howjsay.com to be sure of its pronunciation.
And I thought I was a well educated person.....
Well, they say that continuing to learn staves off Alzheimers, so I'll call it a good thing that I learned something new today.

Just a warning to anyone getting the new book (and I have the first one and the moebius book, so obviously I love Bordhi's work). You need to have the foot right there to measure and fit your first sock for each recipient. It means that making socks for friends and family who live even a couple of hours away cuts into the time you'd otherwise spend doing other things with them. And if they live a continent away?

re Personal Footprints
I've made 4 pr. of these socks, and all the recipients were enthused about their fittings, and watching the progress. On completion they were all delighted with the fit and none "felt" the 3 needle bind off of the heel.
I'm now enrolled in a couple of Cat's workshops that will be held next week in Eureka, CA. One will be on the New Pathways book and the other will be on the Personal Footprint.. Since I already feel pretty proficient in the footprint I'm looking forward to exploring different leg patterns with Cat. I'm disappointed I won't be able to attend her Moebius workshop.. if only to watch her cast on with the needle behind her back 
I attended a 4 day "Socks Soar" workshop with her on Salt Spring Island BC. in 2002, and found her to be a delightful patient teacher and fun to be with.. can't wait to see her again.
Now that I have the footprints for 4 people, I can knit them socks I know will fit, whether I'm next door or in another country.
Cat's tip for folding the footprint is great... they fit into my knitting utensil bag and travel the world with me. I buy yarn wherever I go, so their souvenirs are definitely "personal"!

so glad you love the book migknits! Enjoy taking her classes. She is a real mind-bender!
I took her insoucient sock class last yr adn turned out a fine sock. I just never started the second sock! That will get me every time!!!
