In a discussion a few months back, lots of us agreed that we leave a long tail on our knitting for use in sewing up. Well how many of us have knitted the first row correctly and then got half way through the second row when we discovered that we were knitting with the tail?

Yup. If something can be done incorrectly, I've most likely done it.

I do this way too often! I remind myself not to do it as I am casting on, then I seem to enter a state of oblivion and knit the tail. Lately I 've been rolling the tail up and tying it.

Yes. Many times. That's why I now tie the tail up into a small bundle. But it still happens sometimes when I swatch.

Guilty. I also get it tied up ASAP to try to avoid this problem.

And the awful thing is when the second row is a complicated set-up row, where you have to be be glued to the instructions!

Me too, with all the trimmings!

Both hands up I've done it so many times I now go down the length of the tail to pick up the yarn I'm supposed to knitting to avoid doing it yet again. Doesn't always work though lol

I've done it, too, and now tie it up in a bundle like Solaris.

It seems we are in the best of company! I have begun tying the tail into a little bundle at the end of the knitting soon after I have begun casting on.

I think you guys jinxed me. I usually tie up the tail, pronto, but I was adding a new color, and sure enough, I knitted with the tail. Only 10 stitches, but still...

I tie up the tail by winding it up around a little plastic bread tie - it works really well for me.
