First there was Cher, then Madonna and Prince and Bono. But the music world isn't the only place where single-name phenoms can rise to stardom.
In the winter of 2005, a little-known designer named Cookie A released a sock pattern called Pomatomus in Knitty. It was an instant hit. Did she disappear back into the woodwork? No. She followed up in the Winter 2006 Knitty with the equally popular—-if not even more so—-Monkey sock pattern. Today Cookie co-blogs on Knitters Anonymous and has her own line of knitwear designs—currently all socks. This is her first book, and it is impossible to overstate just how much the sock-knitting world has been anticipating it. ... Rest of review
I fell hard this week....

Like thousands of knitters I have knit both Pomatomus and Monkey and they are both excellent patterns. They are well written and both of them work with handpainted yarns to somehow preventing pooling. Hedera is another of her very popular patterns.
I've been looking forward to this book. I'm going to order it but first I want to make sure that the patterns are not the ones that she published individually since I've bought most of them.
I'm happy for Cookie that she has the book to make her statement because it seems like everyone is now writing patterns that reflect her style. OK, I'll say it, they're all knocking her off.

Well, I just pre-ordered it thru Amazon. I knew I would eventually, it was on my 'wish list.'
I remember how long it took to get a copy of Cat B's latest book; I hadn't pre-ordered it and when it came out it sold out immediately everywhere, I finally fell across the only copy at Stitches East and scarfed it up. I'm not making the same mistake with this obook! |

I snooped around and it looks like the patterns are all new. New to me, anyway. They look great and all are knit top down. Go Cookie!

I've also preordered from Amazon. Recently she put out a call for test knitters on Ravelry - my guess is that means another book! Hooray! This woman is an absolute genius. And Marsha, the KAL is called Makin' Cookies, if you're interested. Dicksie

Thanks for the review, Clara. I pre-ordered it, but through B&N, cheaper and wanting to spread things around. [eta - not cheaper, but I do want to spread things around a little.]
And I SAW IT AND LOOKED AT IT AT SW!!! Shelridge Farms booth had Cookie's copy, apparently even before Cookie has seen it herself! They said she's in England & wanted them to have it at Stitches West.
It's a great book. Yes, as far as I know, all the patterns are new. And they're great! I had to leave it there. Hard, but the right thing. Sigh. I'm so glad for Cookie. It's wonderful that her talents have been recognized. "Talents", no, not the right word - genius. I'm so glad I could see and touch it last weekend.

Thanks for the review, Clara. I just pre-ordered Cookie's book from Amazon.
My next pair of socks will be the Monkey design.

How do.
Wowie zowie.
As a sock fan & a fan of books & a fan of knitting books, this is like hitting the lottery for sure.
Thank you, Clara, for your glowing review. If Cookie's book was not sold out before this review, it surely will be now!

It's a very good book - I think you guys will be pleased.
As a funny aside, after yesterday's review, Cookie's book jumped up to #38 in all of Amazon.com. Never underestimate the power of knitters!

| I swore of sock books once I'd bought a couple and had a few socks under my belt. But I think I might get this one. Mmm mmm, Cookie's good stuff. |

| Well, I should swear off sock books. I pre-ordered this book on Amazon after reading Clara's review. Can't wait for it to come. |
