I'll be in Las Vegas for a few days this coming week. Can anyone point me in the direction of a LYS that I shouldn't miss?

And remember, What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. So, I can buy as much yarn as I like, and not feel guilty!

I go to Vegas often to visit my DD and the grandkids and always stop a the three yarn shops. East of the Strip, on Tropicana and Pecos, is Wooly Wonders. It seems small but well stocked with classics, alpaca, 220, etc. Lots of sock yarns when I was there last. Also has spinning wheels. On the other side of town is Gail's Knits(W. Sahara at Fort Apache, I think). It has lots of glitz and novelty yarns, good baby stuff. The newest is also on W. Sahara, at Rainbow. Its called Two Crazy Ladies. I was there once, and met one of the two. Lots of chatter, when I wanted to quietly mull over the yarns. Good yarn and a huge shelf of sale cottons. Bought some, of course. Gail's and Two Crazy are only a few blocks apart, so you could easily do both. Have fun!

Wooly Wonders is still in the same complex, different suite. It is bigger now. I do love that place. I've been to Gail's once, and someone who works there is a KR member. I have yet to go to Two Crazy Ladies.
Anyway, I love Wooly Wonders. It just has such a great feel to it. There is also a local knit group that meets once a month on the west side of town and also once a month on the east side. We do enjoy random impromptu gatherings as well. You can find the group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/lasvegasknitters/

Take care!

Thank you all for responding. I just returned from LV and was able to visit all three stores.

My (and only MHO)Reviews:

Gail Knits: Wonderful store. Great selection. Yes, she did have a lot of "glitz", but if the ladies that were sitting there knitting are a representative of her customers... she needs to carry it. I was looking for yarn for shawls, and I was able to choose from Debbie Bliss, Crystal Palace, Classic Elite Miracle, Artyarn, Kid Seta, etc. She did have a bargain bin, in which I spied 2 skeins of Trendsetter Kashmir for less than $5.00 ea!!!! WOW! I couldn't pass that up. All in all, a very friendly store, and I would definitly return.

Wooly Wonders: A small store, limited but wonderfully adequate selection. Great for felters, sock knitters. A woman was in the rear giving a private weaving lesson. I was able to watch for a few minutes, without intruding. I would have looked more closely at the spinning wheels, but was never given the chance. The salesperson was helpful, but not being a spinner, she was of limited help. I would have liked to hear about their lessons, quilds, etc that support the purchase of a wheel. I would return, if only to learn more about spinning.

Two Crazy Ladies: Glitz, and more glitz. Very little selection of much else. And I happened to wittness an incident that depicted their staff as not too friendly or helpful. As I was walking in the store, a woman was exiting. She asked if I knew how to bind off. She had purchased her yarn (Debbie Bliss Cashmerino) there and had completed a beautiful scarf. She didn't know how to bind off, and returned to the store for a little help in binding off 25 stitches. The salesperson (owner?) would not help her! I sat with the woman for less than 1 minute, and she was able to leave the store with her scarf done. I don't know about you, but I am of the school of thought, that small adivse should be freely given to customers. All in all, mediocre selection, inadequate service and poor customer support. Pass it by.

I'm going to Las Vegas next month with my DH for 3 days. There will not be much for me to do during the day; he's going to a medical conference. I don't gamble, not into spas that much, nor am I one who like to hang-out by the pool side.

I think we're staying at the Flamingo or the Hilton. Hope that the Wooly Wonders or Gail Knits is within walking distance.

They aren't. But you can get a bus. What days will you be here?

Take care!

We're coming out on Veteran's Day weekend. Short stay: coming in Thursday afternoon (11/9) and leaving early Sunday morning (11/12). My husband has no clue on what I'm planning on during the day. I really don't think yarn shopping is on the agenda.

DH has Fridays and Saturdays off. Perhaps I can get him to take me out there. We can take you to a yarn store or two (I don't drive, so he has to take us around). I'll have to check with him, most likely a little closer to the days you'll be here. Let me know if you think you would be interested.

Take care!

Hubby has a convention that starts on the 9th, so it seems that I will be in town also! It would be fun to meet a few fellow KRer's

yay! A KR meeting! I may have to bid a las vegas layover..... (I'm a flight attendant). I have been to Wooly Wonders when we were in las vegas on vacation (and wasn't the husband thrilled about that one). Sufficient selection and the owner was VERY helpful! Be sure to check out the Ross Store-just east of the Stardust and the Dishes Buffet at Treasure Island. Have a great time.

I love the owner at Wooly Wonders. She is so sweet. She even helped my son out a bit. She is always curious what I am working on, whether I got the stuff there or not. Really a lovely woman.

Take care!

Oh that's funny! My DH is also named David. I'd be more than happy to meet up with everyone. This sounds like it's going to be fun! Please PM me about all the details, and I'll get all the info from my hubby. Wow! Possibly 3 days worth of yarn shopping; Cool!

You'd better also give me info on the nearest post office. I think it would be best if I mailed everything home. If he has more conferences westward; I would love to try and hook up with more KRF members.

Anyone in the SF bay area? We're planning a trip next June.

I sure hope I can make it. Our car died (transmission and/or clutch ), so we have to borrow MIL's car. My son is also out of school that day, which really doesn't matter for anything. Perhaps you will get a chance to meet him. Anyway, I'll see what happens. Heck, if my neighbor isn't doing anything, she said I could use her car if I needed to. That was in regards to picking up our kids, who are in the same class, but I could offer to babysit in return. I will find a way :)

Take care!

Ok, I'm still not sure if we can borrow MIL's car. However, I have my neighbor said she may be able to take me, so that will be good. Otherwise, I will just catch a bus. So, I just need to know if we are set on 1:00 so I can plan accordingly.

Take care!

So, my MIL blew up when David asked her if we could use the car. But that is ok. Heather (my neighbor) is taking me. I'll be there around 1:00. I'm looking forward to meeting you all!

Take care!
