It would be great if we could get the pins in time so we can recognize each other. My sister is coming all the way from Washington again.

We usually meet for lunch by the main gate. It's fun to put a face on the names.
I wonder when the catalog comes out.

This will be my first year at MSAW and I can't wait! I've only been knitting since late last May, so that was when I learned about this event, so then I had a year to wait to experience it! Now, I'm almost there!

Oh, I can barely wait as well! This will be my fourh year. My first year I bought a wheel, second-needle felting supplies, last year-punch rug supplies. I'm looking forward to discovering a new fiber craft medium this year For those considering bringing children-my kids have a great time every year! My son tells everyone about the shearing, sheep dogs and all the wool (and being in NYC, many adults have no idea what he is talking about) Roxy

I still have the BLUE blanket that is used for identifying the KR'ers!!!! I have had it since Fall Fiber when Lissa left it into the grass.

This will be my 5th (or 6th?) year in a row, but my first year without my mommy, who is staying home. Phooey.
But, I think I'm bringing 2 friends, which will also be wonderful.
The biggest sad thing is that I can only go on Sunday, since I have to work 9-12 on Saturday, all the way down in VA. Grrr. But we have friends who live nearby, so I'll be ready-and-waiting to get there when the gates open on Sunday.
I have never met up with the KR folks...maybe this will be my year...

To anyone who has been to MDSW before -- can you tell me how it compares (if it does) to Stitches or the TKGA market? I might be able to go this year but it would be hard to convince my DH (we live in CA but my parents live in MD) that it is "worth" traveling across the country for a weekend.
Thanks! |

When Stitches or the TKGA Market grow up they want to be MDS&W

But yarnporn - remember - MS&W is heavy on the fiber and fleece, spinning wheels and other elaborate tools. It is also at least 1/3 about the animals themselves. Animal judging is going on all the time, sheep to shawl competitions, farming techniques, cheese making - it is a very agrarian show. It's held on a big green field, not in a big shiny convention center. There are classes, for there are ag buildings where they can be aught. It's much more like going to the county fair. Just - a fair with all the fiber toys you could hope to find.
Many many unique and one of a kind yarn vendors will be there, many who don't wholesale, a few who don't even sell on-line yet, so you can find them only at these shows.
I've never been to stitches or TKGA - fool me, skipping TKGA when it was in Richmond one year! - but I go to MS&W every year and it's certainly a mad thrilling energizing weekend. I've been known to fill two suitcases with purchases.
Don't expect to find bargains - though they are there if you dig deeply - but do expect to find the rare, the unique, the unusual. And perhaps this year the Deep Fat Fried Twinkee will be back.

I've been to Stitches East once - last year. The market was fantastic! MDSW is very different. Stitches did have quite a bit of handpainted, handspun products, but percentagewise, I would say they had more widely available commercial yarns. MDSW has a lot of stuff you won't find in a yarn store. And it's just an amazing experience. If I could only go to one thing a year it would be MDSW. What was so great about Stitches was the array of classes available. I plan on going to both this year.

I would venture to say it would be 3-4 hours from NYC. I am in Hagerstown, which is about an hour from MSaW, but have driven to NYC before, years ago. I think that was about how long it took us. Totally do-able!

Well, my plane tickets are booked and I've sent in my registration for the Novelty Yarns class on Sunday. By then I will know about library school and I've been working some extra hours for some spending cash.
Anyone else taking classes?

Wee Ha! You will love that novelty class - I took it 2 years ago and had such fun. Judith is a wonderful person just to be around.
See you at the Spirit Trail booth for sure.
