I'm out of the loop and curious! What are the big trends, new websites, is it as popular as it used to be? Any new brands or designers to look for?

I've had little time for knitting or fiber arts in the past several years, but now find myself with a steady job and an array of health issues that are leading me back to wanting to be knitting and find that restful center again.

Clara's books
Everyone is knitting shawls, fingerless mitts, more shawls, short row shawls in 2 or more colors, socks, lace shawls...

How are you doing? It's good to see your name again.

Here in SF, big fat chunky cowls continue to be "the thing". I am seeing more and more handknits on the streets, too, of various kinds.

So nice to see a post from you hobbitknitter! Hope your health is improving soon.

I think that sweater knitting has made a comeback (I guess socks are not as popular as a few years ago). As LJ said, shawls in several colors like Color Affection are very popular. Brooklyn Tweed and Quince are big in my book, both for their yarns and the pattern collections.
