I am going to make a Kaffe Fassett Throw (Intarsia technique). This may be a stupid question but.....I have to ask. Here is the instructions, "cont in patt from chart working sts twice, which is worked entirely in st st (knit 1 row, Purl 1 row). There is a 10st patt rep. So does that mean that I work 20sts in the pattern?

Is it a slipped stitch pattern? I can't think of any other way to interpret it, but of course there isn't too much context. What is hard to interpret is the "sts" reference. If it said "working patt twice", I would agree that it means to work 20 sts. But by saying "working sts twice", I don't know, again, unless it's a slipped stitch pattern.

st st means like I have stated in ( )....you knit 1 row and purl 1 row. It is not a slipped stitch. I am guessing that you knit 20 instead of 10 stitches. What is puzzling to me is why say there is a 10 stitch patt rep if you're having to knit twice.

I got the "st st" part, jut not the "working sts twice" part. Well, probably the thing to do is to try it out and see what happens - if it's an afghan, maybe you'd want to try it out on a smaller swatch first. Good luck - lots of times what seems inscrutable in writing makes a lot more sense in actual knitting.

I am reading that you work the chart pattern twice. So yes you work 20 sts. Good luck.

Can you let us know which throw it is and where the pattern is? I think it would help everyone if we had more than just the one instruction. If this is a charted pattern, perhaps it means that each row of the chart represents both the knit and the purl rows when knitting. That means you'd still have a 10 stitch repeat, but twice as many rows as the chart shows. I've seen charts done this way before. Just a thought.

uhmmmmm - is the chart every row or every other row? I think what may be meant here is that each box of the chart is 2 stitches and 2 rows (one knit, one purled)
