So I'm working on the button bands for a cardigan for my little girl. (Almost done! It was supposed to be for winter, but took me a little long. It'll have to be a spring cardi!) After I'm done picking up a row of stitches to begin knitting for the button band, does that count as a knitted row? I'm supposed to knit 8 rows, but am not sure if I count that one?
For me, it would depend on how it looked. If you like how it looks counting the pick up row as one, then it works. I tend to do that, go by what pleases my eye and what looks right.
I've heard the tip for bands in a different colour: always pick up the stitches in the background colour, then start knitting your coordinating colour band. There I'm pretty sure I wouldn't count the pick-up as a row, but Milinda is right, what looks best is the real answer.
