I noticed that this lonely topic hadn't been touched in over a year and a half, so I started thinking..... Only ONE yarn? Only ONE pair of needles? Only ONE book? Wow. What a choice that would be!
Since this situation is ludicrous (who needs handknits in the desert?), I began to think about just being locked up, but with a benevolent keeper who promised me one pair of needles, one book, and a promise to keep me stocked with one brand and type of yarn.
The book would have to be a Barbara Walker treasury, either 1 or 2. The needles...probably Addi Turbo. I'd probably go for at least a 29 inch, so I could magic loop for hats, socks, sleeves, etc, yet not too big for a sweater body. Size??? I'd probably go for size 3 US. I could still make (chunky) socks - anything smaller would be too small for my other knitting. And the last choice - the yarn. I'd choose fingering over sportweight, for the versatility, but which brand? I like Cherry Tree Hill and Koigu, but lately have loved Hazel Knits. I love the slight color variations in her solids. Yup, I think Hazel would be my pick.
This has been a fun game. What would you pick??

I'd choose the same book, BW#1 or BW#2. Addi Turbo, 32", size 4.5mm/7, worsted weight yarn in lots of solid colors. I'd want wool if I were in a cold area, cotton in a warm area. I would need graph paper & several color highlighters because w/BW I'd have to make my own charts. I need a crochet hook, too.
That way I could make sweaters, blankets, slippers, hats, mittens or scarves as needed with cables, colorwork, and mitered & granny squares.

For me it's BW #2, Addi Turbo 32" US7, and Cascade 220.
That way I'd be good with sweaters, blankets, felting, and lots of other knitterly things.

| I'd want to choose a good sock yarn, maybe Patonyle, or else Superfine Wool Australia's 3-ply crepe. I hope I'd be allowed to dye them for fun! And I'd want my Addi Turbo 2.25 mm x 100 cm. If I had to choose just one knitting book, it would be Montse Stanley's Handknitter's Handbook. |

Oooh! This is too difficult for me! It would definitely be my Susan Bates size 15 needles or J+ crochet hook and just about anything from Jane Thornley. But yarn - I use so MANY in most projects, so to pick one is almost impossible. If I could still easily get Luxor yarn from Yarnart in colors of my choice, I'd be a very happy knitter. Mango Moon's Silk Ribbon would be my next choice. Freeform is my favorite, so patterns are mostly immaterial for me.

Addi . . . Natura. No. Turbo. Addi Turbo US 6, 40" circular.
And an empty notebook, with a pencil.

I think it would have to be
Needles: size 4 8" DPN, stiletto points from Signature Needles - 6 needles for set.
Yarn: Wool2Dye4 BFL Aran yarn.
Book: Principles of Knitting.
That way I can do thick socks, a sweater, and anything in-between... |

I would pick Sundara sock yarn and a pair of US2 Addi Turbos in 40" length. That would cover socks, lace projects, and fine gauge sweaters.
The book is a tough choice. Probably a book with lace patterns but Debra's suggestion of the Handy Book of patterns would be more useful in the long run.

I'd go for US7 32" and Morehouse Farms merino, worsted. I could knit a bed, pillow, blanket and clothes and smother myself in this cuddly, soft yarn. Probably have to knit myself a cat (and horse) for company too.

Oh what a pain to choose...so just one question: is the island in the tropics or is it a cold one off the coast of Scotland... That would make a huge difference in what I would choose
tropical: probably a cotton yarn, 4-ply cotton from Rowan maybe
cold island: Fleece Peace worsted.
Book: indeed a stitch pattern book, maybe a Japanese one to make it more time consuming and since they are lovely too.

I would have to say LAMB'S PRIDE WORSTED OR BULKY. I love this yarn.
The book would be any one featuring some cables. Needles: probably a size 9 or 10 Addi. |
