These are the most beautiful crocheted scarves I've ever seen.

They are also very expensive! I'd love to crochet one, but I'm not sure what yarn to choose. I read in someone's blog that Knitpicks Shadow is suitable http://sweet.typepad.com/ ( Scroll down to September 29)

but the colour range seems quite limited. Can anyone suggest another lace weight yarn with a wide range of colours that might approximate to these gorgeous combinations?

Do you need laceweight? Perhaps a sportweight or 2 ply that you would use for fair isle knitting?

Well,having seen these scarves, the yarn is VERY fine. Maybe a two ply would do, but sport weight would definitely be too heavy.

Use DMC perle cotton in #8 weight or even work with embroidery floss split down to 3 strands instead of 6.

Perle cotton comes in about 300 colors [or at least it used to]

Try Lacis in california online for an extensive selection of perle cotton.

Someone in blogland made her version of the scarf using Garntudio silke tweed, which she split in half and hook nr 2.5 mm

I might try something in hand dyed sock yarn. I think it might be a good use of leftovers.

My blog is not strictly knitting, but there are occasional WIP updates and frustration or bragging rants as I am a new knitter.
