ok , I took the plunge and tried dyeing some yarn I had with koolaid....amazing fun. it's my first lesson before I advance to acid dyes. I'm not really thrilled with one of the colors I used and wonder can I redye it with more of the same color koolaid for a darker hue or even with another color koolaid??? Also do I have to wait until this dye dries before redoing???
I have a ball of bright yellowish green that I find very garish (dyed with KoolAid). Since i didn't want to rewind it into a skein, i tried knitting a swatch and then overdying with a quick bath in a small amount of blue fabric dye. It turned our beautiful! So if will knit something out of it and then dye the garment.
I don't see why you can't dye several times. Just watch out for felting action if you use boiling water repeatedly. (I have redyed yarn before it dried--no problem).
I buy yarn a lot with the intent to over dye. I can't stop thinking if it just had a tad of color variance..it would be perfect. I also like to check out discount bins for possibilities. Ugly ocre can be a beautiful earthy raspberry with deep golds and olives with just a bit of dye play!
