I just saw on the Independent Film Channel the movie about Dorothy Parker's life, I think it was called The Algonquin Circle. They showed her knitting while observing the filming of some of her screenplays. I wonder if it helped her to write better.

It's nice to know that you can be so smart and witty and knit!

"Art is the imposing of a pattern on experience, and our aesthetic enjoyment is recognition of the pattern."
Alfred North Whitehead, Dialogues (1954)

Oh please, we all know we can be smart and witty and knit- the real question is- can you be smart and witty without knitting?

I think knitting for women back then was just a common everyday thing - like getting coffee from the drive-thru is for us now!

Now that my kids are grown I've been trying to make an art of being lazy. I find I have an apptitude for it. So while it is true you can be witty & smart and knit...you can also be lazy, play dumb and get even more knitting done (huge happy knitting grin!)
