I'm pretty new at knitting and would really like to try the French Market bag (the bigger version listed). I was wondering how hard/easy this is. I have completed two Boogas (and working on my third, WHEEE).

I haven't knit this pattern up yet but it looks like a neat bag. There are quite a few members who have knit this up. Do a search and you might find some tips.

I haven't done it but it the hardest part is probably going to be using the dpn's since you are a new knitter. They can feel weird to a new knitter since the stitches can fall off the needle easier. Other than that the Kitchener stitch is probably the hardest thing and there is a great video at knittinghelp.com for that. Go for it. Having a great felted bag is wonderful.

I've been wanting to knit the French Market Bag too. I'm starting to feel the need to have reusable grocery bags, as the plastic ones are threatening to take over my pantry. There are only so many uses for them. Anyway, was that a Knitty pattern? I can't remember.

I just started the French Market Bag over the weekend. I am doing the optional square base bottom to avoid the dpn I know that I am going to make it quite a bit deeper and use it as my current knitting project bag. The handles are not hard (I did similiar handles on my fling bag) and any mistakes or minor imperfections are hid in the felting process! (which is why I ADORE felting!!) I say, GO FOR IT!! You can always go to knittinghelp.com when you get stuck.. or come to this wonderful forum which has been such a great source of information and encouragement for me as a newbie knitter!!

Thanks for the great ideas!!! I'm not sure what colors, I'm going to take a trip to Utah and see if I can find some good LYSs out there. I'm in Kansas and only have Hobby Lobby and Micheals (thank goodness for internet). See if I can find some yummy wools to touch and rub and ooooh[blush] in UT.

oh ya, I forgot to post the pattern for the bigger FM. http://www.ma2ut.blogspot.com/2004_03_01_ma2ut_archive.html
Apparently the original on knitty.com makes a weird nipple thing and puckers in the front (I dunno)and adjustment addresses those problems.
