I never knitted a sweater for any of my ex boyfriends, but I did knit the last one an afghan. I spent the entire summer working on this huge monstrosity as a gift for him - made it out of three strands of yarn held together in black, grey and some metallic black yarn (I forget which now) knitted on size 17 circulars. It was a painful experience and I've sworn never to make another afghan like it for as long as I live. Needless to say, my relationship with that particular person didn't even make it to the gifting of said afghan and it now graces the bed in my spare bedroom.
Saving grace: It's probably one of the warmest afghans I've ever made, which is why I didn't toss it in the scrap bin after my ex bf.

At least he was history before he got the afghan! So you got to keep it. I would have been mad if I made it and he kept it after a break-up. That's a ton of work. I know because I have a half finished one in a tote in my room!!

Luckily you get to keep it and use it. You will really enjoy on those cold winter nights.

I was thinking of making my boyfriend an afgan before he went off to college. Here I thought I was avoiding the whole curse!;P I'm thinking I may make it for him anyway...what pattern did you use for your afgan?

Hi,
I knitted my boyfriend a scarf and a hat, numerous sweaters, vests and we've been together for 30 years, married for 21 years.
So I wouldn't worry about a curse of any kind.
Knit in peace and harmony.

I crocheted my boyfriend an afghan and gave it to him as an engagement present...we had our 14th anniversary this week. So in a way, I got to keep the afghan after all!

I made my husband(then boyfriend)several sweaters and a couple of afghans and we had our 25th anniversary this year. And dated three years before we got married. He still asks me to knit him things!

I had /just/ learned to knit, so the pattern wasn't all that complicated. It was a seed stitch pattern. It's absolutely huge! I just wish I hadn't done it in /black/!
