I have made a terrible mistake when I reformatted my hard drive: I didn't uninstall the Garment Designer program. Now after upgrading from WinME to WinXP, my original CD with the software won't install the program anymore. I can "explore" the CD and see the autorun.inf and GD2SetupwSS1&2.exe file, but it won't open, install or do anything at all.
I read in the manual that the program requires the PECTLOCK file in the Windows Systems, which is now missing because I didn't uninstall.
I called Cochenille for help and she will send me a new CD, but I don't think my CD is the problem.
Has anybody else had this problem with reinstalling the program on WinXP? How did you fix it?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I am completely frustrated.

I forwarded your question to my resident computer geek, and got this response:
----- Sounds like she didn't install her cd-rom driver properly. It's also possible that the installation program on the cd she has isn't compatible with Windows XP. Since she says she can't even run the installer, the problem is most likely either her system or her program is too old. I would lean towards the former, given that she just reformatted. I don't know what a PECTLOCK file is, but I'm fairly sure it has nothing to do with this. -----
I received the Garment Designer program for Christmas, haven't installed it yet, and don't know if I will keep it. Mainly because I'm not sure a computer program would serve my needs better than old-fashioned drafting tools and a calculator. I'm curious to hear from a real, live user what their experiences are, if you wouldn't mind sharing... |
