Hi Guys,
I'm a beginning spinner and became mesmerized by a bag of "award winning" kid mohair locks. They are natural colored, with a bit of hay and stuff in it but not much. LOTS of definition in the curls... and simply georgeous and soft! Anyway, I have no clue what to do with it. ALl I've ever done is single and a bit of plying. I have combs and combed some till it was long and fuzzy and lofty and beautiful but it seems like such a waste to comb out the curls.... (I have curly hair can you tell?) Not sure if I have the skill to do the flick thing where the curls stay in but I really think that would be cool. So my questions are:
1)Do I have to wash/clean it all like I read about or can I just try to pull it apart and have the debris fall out naturally... will the washing ruin the locks?
2)Do most people comb out the curls on purpose? If I do this would I then spin it alone or comb it with something or ply it with something?
3)Does anyone know of a video or magazine article with photos of how to flick the locks so that the final yarn has a bit of the curls hanging off of it?

Patsy Z has a video on spinning textured novelties and boucle's - that's what you want for this - it keeps and even accents the curl, and it's LOVELY! See if you can get your library to carry all her videos... http://www.spinninguru.com/videos.html
