I bought 3 skeins of a varigated manos to make Backyard Leaves but the varigation hid the design so I scrapped that idea. Then I tried the multidirectional scarf and didn't like that either.

Any ideas for this very pretty, very fall like varigated yarn??? It is begging to be knit into something

Well, the book Alter Knits has pretty fingerless gloves that take just one skein. They lace up the arm with silk ribbon. I like this idea because it allows you to wear them over something and have a good fit or adjust them for various sizes of arms. I am making some for Christmas gifts using Manos and Hanna Silk ribbon for the laces. Then the book Last Minute Knitted Gifts has a scarf that uses 2 skeins of Manos and 2 skeins of Rowan Kid Silk Haze. Then, the same book has a hat pattern that uses one skein. I am on my 5th set of hats and scarves for gifts. They turn out beautifully and you can use different combinations of Manos and Kid Silk Haze.

As a sample for the store, we did a ribbed vest with a triangular back v attached drape than ended in a tassle; it tied in the front. Unfortunately I don't remember sourcing for the pattern-a Fall mag I think. Anyway, it turned out fabu! A Vest, Perhaps? Also , what about a "Capelette"? KL

Thanks guys,
I am liking the idea of a vest but 3 skeins won't be big enough for me.. I suppose I could buy a couple of more skeins and make a vest. I havent' found just the pattern that calls to me.[:00]

I never wear hats, but DH does. Maybe I could make a hat for him. I am selfish and knit mostly for myself...

I had a similar problem with variegated yarn - I ended up doing a diagonal garter scarf. I basically cast on three stitches, then just increased at the start of every second row until the scarf was wide enough, and then increased (kfb) at the start of every second row and decreased (k2tog) at the end of the same row.

I only had a 50g ball of yarn which I knitted with two strands together, which was only enough for a neck warmer - so I made a keyhole at the end and then cast off the scarf so that it was a trapezoid in shape. However, you could easily keep going until near the end, and make a parallelogram shape by stopping the increases and continuing the decreases.

There is a photo on my blog (see address below) - it's under the category 'Miriamele' if you have any problems finding it.

Cheers,
Ada

while alot of people think I am crazy.. manos felts BEAUTIFULLY. So much so it is my favorite felting yarn. It has this lovely boucle look when fully felted. I highly recommend making yourself a lovely purse.

My mother made me a homosexual.
And if you give her some yarn, she'll make you one too. ~quentin crisp
