I have used Procion Mx dyes to batik silk and cotton, and am interested in trying them on wool and alpaca yarns. Has anyone used a technique other than straight vat dyeing? If you painted or squirted dyes on wool yarn and then steamed it, how did that work? Did you mix vinegar into the dye before painting? Any other techniques or hints? Thanks!
Pro Chemical also has some information on their site. I painted with it on wool sock yarn. I soaked the yarn in vinegar first, then painted it with thickened dye. Either the Dharma site or the Pro Chemical site will have information. Look for information on painted warps too.
You don't have to thicken the dye. I did it to get more control over exactly where the dye went.
