Has anyone been before? The event is October 21-23 and I'm thinking about attending this year since its closer to me than Rheinbeck but haven't heard much buzz about the event. The site is here if you're interested in more information - http://www.saffsite.org/

Yes, this will be my third year attending SAFF. I thoroughly enjoy the event. There are a fair number of vendors whom you can visit all in one day. Also there is a big spinning circle down on the main floor of the agricultural arena where the event is held. Spinners set up their wheels and spin and chat all day. Of course, when one person leaves the spinning circle and returns with some wonderful new fibers, then everyone else is soon following suit. There are also plenty of sheep, llamas, alpacas, and bunnies to view and sometimes pet with the owner's permission. All in all, it's a great event in the very nice setting of scenic Asheville, NC. However, you had better make your hotel reservations ASAP because the event is during the prime "leaf looker" season and everyone flocks to the mountains to see the pretty fall leaves and enjoy the cool weather.

I've attended SAFF most of the past six or seven years. Dad's right - you can 'do' this fiber event in a day, and it's a great one to 'do' with the children. My own brood went off with Dad to look at the animals and left Mom to take classes and shop for fiber and yarn. Makes a great family weekend with Biltmore House. But make hotel reservations early!

One of the more 'fun' things about SAFF is the way the spinners and knitters take over the town during this weekend. I've stayed at several different hotels during the event, and I absolutely love walking into the lobby after dinner and seeing the room full of spinning wheels and knitters!
