I bought two skeins not realizing they were only 175 yards each. No really enough for socks. The LYS I bought them at is kind of inconvenient to return them to so any ideas what I can do with this yarn? It is soft blues, greens and purples. Thanks for any ideas!

Actually, it seems that I have read many posts indicating that knitters made socks with 2 skeins of Koigu. Anyone else able to attest to this?

Circe, are they the same colorway? Because I easily got a pair of socks for my (size 9) feet out of 175 yards of koigu. You could also consider contrasting heels and toes to make the yarn go a bit farther.

It sounds as though you will have enough for socks. If you want to go in another direction, gloves will work too. Also, I just saw a book at my LYS that had tons of cool patterns (other than socks) for sock yarn. Wish I could remember the name...

I guess compared to 430 yards of Lorna’s Laces it doesn’t seem like very much! I don’t want footies! I can ask on one of the sock forums if there is a good pattern otherwise is there something else I might do with it?

I make socks w/2 skeins of Koigu. I know you can do a women's shoe size 8 with a 6" cuff on a 2.75mm needle in a textured pattern and still have yarn left over. Lorna's is a lighter weight yarn knit on 2.25mm (for me) so you need more yardage and you will have plenty left over anyway.
Start knitting those socks!

cool, thanks, I'm a size 9 so this may be a good opportunity to give toe up another try. Since we are on the topic, how do they wear and would you recommend a reinforcing yarn?

I'm working on jaywalkers in "Socks that Rock" yarn as we speak! I really like them but it is really cutting it close with the 360 yards and this is only 350 for the koigu. I'm starting the heal flap for the 2nd so I'll see how much I have left after this sock and then judge if I can make the koigu into jaywalkers. If not something lacy might use less yarn.

If you have the book Socks Socks Socks I can tell you that I made Gull Wings and Purl Lace from that book with 2 skeins of Koigu. I also made Ripple but that was with one skein of KPM and one of KPPPM and I altered the pattern to fit me.

I made a pair of ankle socks for my approximately medium sized feet with one skein of Koigu. (By about medium sized, I mean that my feet are on the smaller side, but not abnormally so- about a size 6-6.5 depending.)

Koigu socks wear better than reputed - I have a pair that is 4+ years old. Granted, I'm in FL so I only wear them a short time during each year, but I've even thrown them in the machine with my jeans (by accident the first time, and I do hang them to dry) with no ill effects. They fuzzed a bit, but not in an icky way.

I made these lace socks from the Interweave Knits Summer 2003 from two skeins.
http://avocations.blogs.com/completed/2003/12/merino_lace_soc.html
They call for three skeins but I got by with two and still had a small ball left over. I think I shortened the leg about one inch. For reference, I wear size 7.5 shoes.
They're my absolute favorites and have worn quite well. No problems washing them in a front loader on the delicate cycle.

Thanks everyone, I'm glad I asked here. The link Cayli posted is great - I like the idea of a scarf. The "Opera" scarf looks like a good possibility.
