Has anyone heard of knitting cruises? or have any info on it. I thought i read about in my travels on the net recently. What do others think of this? Has anyone ever been on a knitting cruise or some sort of knitting retreat? I wonder if they have any knitting cruises or retreats in Hawaii!!!!!!!!!

A knitting cruise sounds lovely. I have found lots of trips and tours and the like, but not a cruise. I'd love one down the Loire Valley on a house boat :)

I have read that Awesome Ewe has an annual one and have seen the pictures on their website but I have already taken a cruise to Alaska with my family and would prefer another Caribbean one instead anyway! I could happily go to the Caribbean every year it's one of my favorite places on earth!

Oh I wish! There, just add another to the ol' Wish List! I'd love to go up to Alaska, or around the Scandinavian fjords! Also would love to take a road/rail trip around Scotland -- not a cruise, but wouldn't it be great to get wool right from the Shetland Isles and then retreat to Ilona and knit in peace...(not to mention scotch-sipping in between!)?

Lelani here, I think if enough people are interested here and would like to maybe think of putting together something for next year(some sort of knitting cruise) we could join an established group or I dont know, lets be creative. I love the water. I went on a cruise to the Bahamas that was wonderful. I would so love to go somewhere next year. If anyone would like to just even entertain the idea let me know here or email me. Or if Clara doesnt mind maybe we could use this topic on the forum for our planning.Or maybe Clara has some ideas!!!!!!!!!

Bergen Lines runs the boats that go up and down the coast of Norway. They are not a singing/dancing/casino sort of thing, but rather passenger boats that deliver freight and people to various towns, small and large, along the coast. Meals are simple - no flaming skewers of exotic vegetables - but the views are fabulous, there are several large lounges with big windows and couches, perfect for knitting, and the prices are reasonable. In addition, all Norwegians take English in school from mid-grade school, so language is not a problem. The passenger roster is partly local, partly international, because of the splendid scenery. NAYY, but I've been on the run, it's wonderful, and it's never too hot to knit!

This sounds like a wonderful idea Lelani. I love cruises and getting together with other knitters. I have a background in event planning so maybe I can help someway in forming a trip. I know some cruise lines offer discounts to a trip leader for getting a group together. In any case feel free to email me about this. In interested!

Once upon a time I thought I would hate cruises because I get very claustrophobic. (Yes, it's possible to be claustrophobic on a huge cruise ship!) Then we took a Disney cruise for our honeymoon. Now, it's my idea of a perfect vacation. I would be game for a knitting cruise... sitting on the deck, watching the water go by, knitting away. Of course, I might drowse off once in a while. And no one is allowed to make fun of my big hat.

My first instinct was to shout "Virgin Islands" because I loved my trip to St. John so much. Then I remembered how hot & humid it is, plus it rains a LOT. (Gosh, it rains a lot in the rainforest, imagine that . . . ) Not very compatible with knitting! But if the price is right, and the timing works out, I would be interested in going. Can be bring non-knitting SO's along?

Maybe not Bali right at the moment! I'm still nervous after the Bali bombing last year and the trials are going on at the moment...all over the news here.
But what about New Caledonia, Fiji, etc etc etc

I think this is an excellent idea, but only if S/O can come along, and what about children? My child will be 5 and it would be the perfect age for him to go on a cruise.
My first pick is definitely Alaska on a smaller ship.
I've been on big ones and they are too high above the water for me.

I am so excited!!!!! just reading the posts has me sitting on the deck with my knitting needles just a clicking away. The other sites i visited(look back a few posts and you will see someone posted possible sites to view) state that S/O's and family members are welcome. Christina N. I am intrigued with your background in event planning. I would love to work with you and any others on gathering info and prices. Also possible dates people feel they can get away next year. I am a nurse in a hospital so I have to give a fair amount of notice. Then of course we have to save as much as we can so we can buy yarn, right!!! Some of the other sites I viewed gave free yarn kits etc to every knitter. God doesnt that sound great!!! So maybe sometime next year would be good? Vicky by the Bay, how are you? I hope you and Bev will be in on this as well I would love to meet you as well as many others here old and new. As you can see by the low number of my posts that I have only been here a short time myself but feel so very much apart of you already. I even started my first pair of socks tonite. I have knitted a sweater, scarves, hats, mittens etc.. but never any socks. So here goes!! Christina N. I will send you an email. Tomorrow is not promised to any of us, lets enjoy today, it's ours for the taking!!!!!
