I'm an EXTREME newbie to knitting...have been trying to teach myself from various books....while I was throwing my yarn and needles across the room last night I started to wonder...
Are there any other knitters in the Columbia MO area? Newbies and old 'hands' alike? Any who would be interested in starting a knitting group??
I intend to trudge on alone until I get the hang of this...still it would be nice to have some fellow knitters to celebrate with when I finish my first scarf.....or pot holder...
If anyone is interested, let me know!
Thanks, Crystal |

Crystal, I don't really remember anyone in KR that is from Columbia. I went to college there and now live in Arkansas. I would check with the local yarn store, they normally know of the SNB and other that meet.
Good luck.

A lovely shop, indeed. There are several of us from St. Louis and KC, and a few outliers, but mid-Missouri? Hmmmm....
I'm in STL, myself.

Hi Crystal, and welcome!
klfrazier and I are both in Columbia. We get together about once a week at B&N at the mall. The S&B group that meets is also a lot of fun. I drop in there for a fix once in a while too. klfrazier is a member of the guild here, and there's a group of fun ladies who get together on Thursday mornings at Hillcreek. Feel free to e-mail me, and we can arrange to get together at one of these places for a knitting session!

Columbia Knitwits meet every Tuesday evening (6-8 pm) and/or every Thursday afternoon (1-3 pm). The evening group rotates locations. The next one will be at Our Lady of Lourdes church in the cafeteria. Check the website for other locations: http://knitwits.missouri.org/. The afternoon group always meets at Hillcreek Yarn Shoppe, 1414 Rangeline (449-KNIT).
Knitters (and crocheters, tatters, and general gossipers) of all skill levels are welcome. It's a nice group for socialization and a great resource for answers to questions and help with project potholes.
You should also check out the Columbia Weavers and Spinners Guild. http://cwsg.missouri.org/ There exhibition is coming up, hmmm, I think it's November 10-12 at the Nifong historical center.
Both Hillcreek and Stitches have tables set up in the store for folks to just drop by and knit. Both offer classes from beginning through advanced.
You can catch Alice Kimble at the public library on Monday nights with a beginning group of knitters. I swear that woman gets more people hooked on knitting than anyone else.
So there are lots of opportunities to meet up with other knitters in Columbia. Come join us! |
