I was going to make my first moebius scarf as a gift to a friend. I found one gorgeous 250 yd skein of Mountain Colors wool in colors that are simply perfect for her, but that's a little short for a scarf. I also bought a skein in a coordinating color, but I'm not thrilled with that.
Then I remembered that she wears headbands to cover her ears all the time in winter. Hmm. A Panta headband, worked end-to-end in ribbing with increases to cover the forehead and ears, would probably suit her. Hmm again. The moebius worked in alternating 3 rows of knit then purl looks an awful lot like that ribbing. Hmmmmmmm. There are hatbands in the Bordhi book, and they'd be about the right length....
So what do you think? If you've made a Panta, do you think increases to cover the ears and forehead are essential, or will wearing a headband with a twist in back under the hair will work equally well? If you've made a moebius, do you think starting with a shorter needle is going to be too fiddly for a first attempt at a moebius? ("only use a needle shorter than 40" if you're making a hat, otherwise, use the longer needle size!")

| Thanks for the vote of confidence! That was just what I needed. It's done, and I think it came out really well. I was delighted that I was able to use the 36" needle I just got in a swap with no problems. And I still have enough yarn left over to make a pair of fingerless gloves. Better get cracking... |
