| I have been an avid knitter for over 50 years, at last you may say I have been stumped. My great grandchild wants either a picture jumper or a toy of a 'Blue Kangaroo' HELP I have searched high and low, not even an ordinary kangaroo. I know I am getting past it and well behind the times but can someone out there help. |

I'm knitting the kangaroo and joey in the Tracy Chapman book Fran mentioned above. You can, of course, make your kangaroo whatever color your great grandchild (wow!) wants. Or make it bigger or smaller (well, the joey is small enough already -- fits into the mama's pouch). I've found some errors in the pattern. I can send you the e-mail I forwarded to the publisher, who said they'd be posting an errata page for the book in the next few weeks. Let me know if you want my notes.
Also, I bought, from Australia, a storybook kitting book called Willie Wombat and his friends that has a bright blue and gold kangaroo along with several other fantastic creatures. My DIL is from NZ (I know, not Australia but all kids like fantastically colored critters, right?) so I have planned to make these someday for my grandson. I found the booklet on e-bay -- don't think it's very frequently there -- I hadn't seen it before. Anyhow, this one doesn't have a pouch or joey. Booklet includes patterns for the wombat, frog, platypus, kangaroo, lizard, koala, possum, rabbit, and kookaburra. Calls for all Sirdar and Patons yarns but you could use any worsted weight yarn. Booklet was published in Melbourne -- no date in it.
