I finished the dorm blanket I was making for a gift and it was right on deadline. I used Burlyspun by Brown Sheep and it's thick and soft and cuddly which is exactly what I wanted. I'm pleased, I hope the giftee is pleased, and here's the picture: Wishbone

I LOVE IT!!!! My daughter is just heading to college and I bet she would appreciate something like this....I guess I'll have to shoot for Christmas to get it completed. Thanks for the inspiration!

It's lovely! If you had it to do all over again, well, how do you feel about those large needles? I know they are quicker, but they seem to cause greater strain, too. What was your experience? Thanks!

That's a gorgeous blanket! It's a color that looks good and goes with everything. It looks very cuddly, too. Doesn't it feel great to make a gift on time?

Thanks everyone!
calmmom, the #17 needles were fine although prior to this I've never knit with that large a needle. I usually use #1, 2 or 3 needles on socks and baby things or a bit larger for scarves or sweaters but after a few rows any size needle seems "right" in my hands. I loved the yarn and the combination of the yarn and the pattern and the needle size made for easy knitting with good results.
Wendy, I didn't work on it during the height of the heat wave so I lost close to a week but it had to be done on time since she is leaving for school and I wanted to give it to her before she left. Now ask me what's on TV at 3 in the morning and I can give you a complete rundown.
jcc28, you once gave a link to pictures of cabling without a cable needle and I've been cable crazy ever since! I can't thank you enough for that info.

Thanks for the first hand info on those big needles -- I know it's a lovely book with many great patterns and I LOVE the yarn. You've encouraged me to consider it. Love your afghan!

I finished almost a week ago and I haven't picked up needles & yarn since! My neighbor had a boy this week and I have patterns and yarn to knit a gift but no knitting energy. Maybe when the weather gets a little cooler......
