Hey everyone,

The magazine Knit.1 has a pattern for Day of the Dead dolls. For those who don't know, Day of the Dead is a Mexican celebration that is a joyous remembrance of the dead. Traditionally it happens Nov. 1-2. Kristi (www.reddogknits.blogspot.com/) and I (www.knitthink.typepad.com) have started a Day of the Dead KAL. You can do the dolls, or make something else. The focus of the KAL is to knit something in honor of someone who's no longer with us. For example, on my blog I talk about one of my best friends from college who was murdered, and a beloved grandmother, and I have projects designated for both of them. On the main KAL site (http://dayofthedeadkal.blogspot.com/), we're building a list of information about the celebration, recipes, and reminiscences of those we're honoring. Please join us. The KAL started this week and ends with Day of the Dead in November. Feel free to start anytime!

I'll have to see if I can find it, although I don't really *do* KAL's. But it sounds like fun.

Hi SallyJo,
You can do the dolls, or you can do something else altogether. I'm doing the dolls in remembrance of a dead friend, but I'm also doing a table runner in Christmas colors in memory of my grandmother, who loved Christmas.

Those dolls are awesome!

I hate yellow and knitting with DPNs - which I imagine is involved in the dolls, eh? - but I'm sorely tempted to get that magazine, join up in honor of an uncle who meant the world to me and knit those dolls. If nothing else, I'll probably join up and make something in honor of him. Got to think for a bit on it first, though.

My finished objects, WIPS and stash photos!

Went to check out the blog for the KAL, was curious and found a wonderful recipe for Empanadas. Yummy!

Yeah, those empanadas are great, aren't they? A new recipe will be up in September.
