I've got to agree with you, Janet. Frankly, as a person owned by four cats, I'm not at all sure I UNDERSTAND the purpose of the project. It makes me sad.

I'm not quite sure what to say to that.

I think it is about people's perception of knitting- people see knitting as warm and fuzzy, but the artist has used it to depict just the opposite.
Otherwise, I am going with "man's inhumanity to man."

| There's a lot of stuff that passes for art these days that is a lot worse than that stuff. This was pretty disgusting, however. |

Kind of like 'The Nightmare Before Chtistmas' knitting... Freaky, but some of it made me chuckle...my husband too (he's sitting next to me). Art and artists...interesting, trippy...but interesting.

I liked the monkey with the banana boat... The rest I found a little disturbing, except for the tiger with the hand and the bones. That gave me a chuckle. I'd like him for the front hallway. Unwlecome guests and all. lol
When I was in art school we studied a number of contemporary artists in class and there were some that were even more disturbing to me than this; like the woman who videotapes herself having plastic surgery while wearing odd costumes - like a she-devil getup. Gave me the creeps.

As the mother of a young boy who came THISCLOSE to dying from a head injury, the one of the boy fallen from the bike truly upsets me. :(

On the one hand, I think the design and constructin are great and show a lot of talent, I found the subject matter pretty gross. I liked the monkey, too, and for some reason the conjoined twin teddy bears made me smile, but the rest? Ick. Yet amazingly well done ick.

Did I think it Beautiful, as described on the web page? Is it Art to me? Some of it is humorous but mostly it's just the sort of thing that makes me tired of what some people are trying to call "art" these days. I hope I've not offended anyone with these opinions.

Actually it was "Beutiful" art lella ;).
Amazing what people spend their time on...some were kind of funny (I do admit to liking the unicorn impaling the teddy bear...but I'm all sick like that) but several were just disgusting. And not in the "juxtaposition of form vs. technique" kind of way.
This stuff ain't exactly gonna be putting Rauschenberg out of business any time soon. |

I'm with GrandmaHatter, it's disturbing because it subverts the warm, homey nostalgia we tend to associate with knitting. They've taken the delicate and serious side of a creative medium and turned it on its head by throwing a realm of creative possibilities out there that is completely different to what we're used to. Really, they're just a series of dolls, which makes it all the more grotesque: who would play with them?! How do you play with them? Their story is already told! Where else could you possibly take them? Nonetheless, I don't think it's disgusting or sick any more than Sin City (as a graphic novel) is disgusting or sick, it's just not the Archie Comics you used to buy at the penny store down the road.
Whoever the artist is has a bucketload of talent, an incredible imagination and a great sense of humour.

I don't know, I thought it was all pretty funny - and some pieces in particular were just gorgeous (like the crocodile).

What I want to know is how long did it take the artist to make all those tigtly knit things. Also, some of them appeared to be crocheted.
