I'm thinking about getting a knit theme license plate since my plates are up for renewal soon. My non-knitting friends and family already think I'm nutty enough as it is about knitting, I just wonder if this is too over the top? Does anyone else have knit plates? If so, wanna share what they say?

One of the local LYS owners (even before her store opened) has a yellow new volkswagen bug that has a license plate that says "knit." This is the same lady who has known to cause confused stares by knitting while walking in Home Depot.

http://www.thenakedsheepknitshop.com/ is her store.

I think it's totally less crazy than the knitting tattoo.. if that helps.. lol.

Aren't those personalized plates supposed to be fun? If you want it.. go for it! I'd do it : )

Oooooh, I would SO do that. My husband would probably be less enthusiastic, though- somehow I don't think that driving around in a car that proclaims his love of knitting would appeal to him as much as it would to me!

Anyway, you could do stitch combos, like k1 p2, or, of course, luv2knit, or hav2knit, or knit4fun, etc!

what about

kntnspn

(Knit and Spin)

I love the idea, but haven't gotten around to it myself...

What a great idea!

I'm contemplating moving back to NY (upstate) and will have to get plates, etc, anyway. Too bad "yarn delirious" is so long - I can't just put "delirious" on there!!

I think that *k2tog* would be awesome, especially if you're married and have little ones! ;)

I have a knitting license plate on my car. I live in Nebraska and we can have 7 characters. I did LV2KNIT. I got it last May and I love it!

Most places allow 7 characters. I have seen some random plates that happen to have ssk on them. Makes me giggle because they have no idea that they have a knitting abbreviation on their plates.

Take care!

I love the idea too! I've been contemplating it a long time, so I don't think it's over the top. But MN plates are so expensive as it is and then to tack on the extra charge to personalize it is what keeps me from doing it. I always figured something like "K2P2" or "C4B" or the aforementioned, k2tog or s1k1psso.

Great idea. Keep us posted.

(Hey Patti- I'm going to tell my DH, an Omaha cop, that knitters with personalized plates get a warning instead of a ticket, LOL!)
If my DH can covet plates with his alma mater and "5 4 IU" (read as "Five [our family] for Univ. of Iowa) then I can certainly have a knitting plate on the vat...but they are pricey and that's money that could go to yarn!
Actually, I had a vanity plate in college that my parents put on the little Toyota with which they surprised me, and it was kind of annoying, because everyone knew it meant *something* and I had to explain it all the time and it was cheesy...

I'd go for it, too. My plates are Martha's Vineyard related, but I love having vanity plates!

chellethinques -- You reminded me of a non-knitting plate that my Dad always wanted to get when we were growing up. He wanted a plate that said "bushel" because there were 4 of us in our family and our last name was Peck, so there were "Four pecks in a bushel." Bad joke, but that's my Dad for you.

In PA we only have plates on the rear of the car, so I have a special plate on the front that says "License to Knit". I got it at the LYS.

I LOVE all of your suggestions. Now to narrow it down and then go through the process of finding out what's available. BTW, I drive my car 99% of the time so DH won't have to worry too much about driving with the wacky plates. Thanks for supporting my "nuttiness" :)
