I'm about half way through, and I'm enjoying the ways that Erdrich is knitting characters and stories into a whole.

That's a wonderful way to put it! I love her writing, and I love the interconnectedness of all the people in her books. You don't have to have read all of them, but it's nice to come across people you've met before, or their relatives. My favorites are Master Butcher's Singing Club and Painted Drum, which I read a couple of months ago.
