| I am not into dyeing yarns, but I have to tell you that the colors in the photo of your skein looks wonderful. Congrats! |

I've done kool-aid dying before but wasn't brave enough to do multiple colors. How do you add the colors to the yarn to achieve that effect? I had about 100 yds wound loosely into just a large oval shape. Then I put the whole thing in a crock pot with the kool-aid already mixed up inside. To do multiple colors would you just *baste* with different colors in swipes around the circle (yarn laying out on plastic wrap, I think)?
Yours is LOVELY! |

Thanks everyone!
imamamaof2...actually, what I did was this...put the yarn into a plastic container after being soaked in water with a bit of vinegar. It was not covered in water...just a bit wet from soaking after ringing it out slightly. From there I drew up the colours into a turkey baster and "basted" the colour onto segments of the yarn...and squeezed the yarn (with gloves on LOL) to get the colour to go through it entirely. I did that right around the entire skein of yarn...threw it in the microwave for 2 minutes at high, 2 minutes rest, 2 minutes high, let cool and then rinsed it off in warmish water. The water ran clear pretty quickly too...without a lot of rinsing.
You aren't seeing segments of colours in my yarn like all purple area or an all blue area, etc. because I always let it dry and then re-skein the yarn so as to get a prettier effect in the hank. If I had not done this, it would've been a segment of red, a segment of purple, a segment of ice-blue, etc. for all the colours instead of the "mixed" look you see now.

| What yarn did you use for the base? It's beautiful and makes me think I could dye too! :) |

Hi Roxanne- Thanks for the info. So you do have sections or lengths that are each individual color. That's what I want to do. So it would knit up in stripes. Again, it's so pretty! You did a super job!

Hi, Beautiful dyeing! Did you dye each color in short or long segments? Was each color used once or more? I have dyed using Kool-Aid but only in single colors and love the look of yours! Kathy |
