No, but it was open today (Christmas Eve). I didn't get any pencil roving but did get some other fiber they recommended.

She took a lot of time showing me different fibers and telling me what I should try first. I really like that store - they don't try to talk you into something you don't need and even tell you when you can substitute something else for less $. And they are very patient and take a lot of time explaining things and answering my questions. That's what will keep me coming back.

I bought Hands On Spinning and think that will help a lot plus a copy of Spin-Off that has an article about beginning spinning. A little more reading and I'll be ready to start! (Oh, and it was reassuring that all their employees spin on Lendrums - they had only great things to say about them. They carry lots of different brands, though, and they were all beautiful. I can see why you all love the craft.)

I think it's corriedale - I got 1/2 pound. I got some from Inspirations, too --

4 oz each of: Blue Faced Leceicester, Shetland, Wensleydale, Kid Mohair Corriedale Cross and Jacob.

6 oz. of Merino/Targhee Blend.

1/2 oz. each of: Wensleydale, Corriedale Cross, Kid Mohair, Merino/Kid Mohair, Merino/Angora, Blue Faced Leicester, Merino, Merino Super Wash, and Merino Silk Blend (these are all dyed in same blends of blues)

Inspirations was having a sale so that's why I got such a diverse sampling.

Should be enough to get me started, don't ya think?

My DD started spinning pencil rovings on her little Louet. Good idea spindyerella. I've been practicing my treadling a couple of days and fiddling with the brake to see what affect it has on the speed. This wheel came with two and a half pounds of roving called confetti, and a pound of top as well, very soft. This is a very great adventure to be embarking on. I've named my wheel Lilly, after my mother.

Happy Spinning!
