I was wondering what advice I would get in regards to my missing models at my store. I have been noticing alot of scarves and other things coming up missing around the shop. Any ideas as to what to do? I'd love to hear some suggestions. Thanks... |

I'd set up a video camera or at least a fake one so people would see it and think twice. And make it in plain sight.
Sorry maybe there are some people here who have shops and figured out a solution already.
Good luck though

I keep most of my models up high. Scarves and such are tacked up by the cubbies. I haven't really run into this problem with the knit things, but my bead section - when 'groups' are on that side of the store, my eyes are glued. Of course, mirrors, they help alot.

Putting a ring through the corner to attach them to the shelves (like a key ring) would slow down the removal....

Zip tie them down to shelves or tables or whatever

Put bells on clear fishing line that attaches to the scarf it it's moved more than a set distance. When you hear bells, ask if they need assistance. Small jingle type bells will be on sale all over in about 6 days.

Wear them and/or make staff wear the items if possible. Others hung slightly above eye level with wall attachments of some sort and finally create a 'slippage account' calculated prorata to sales - at least allows you a deduction.
Hope this helps.

AnnaMarie, great idea! We have Irish imports, which includes scarves, always on the hunt for theft deterant ideas.

I can't believe that someone - presumably a knitter - would steal your models!! What nerve!!

Might be knitters, might not. When I worked at a LYS, there were quite a few nonknitters who came in wanting the handknits they saw in the window, and they were never looked happy with the price quoted, or the solution suggested to take a class to make their own. Just a thought.

My fav lys ties all of hers down or up. The samples are above you head. You can touch it, but it is obivious, plus her staff wear samples. She got tired of losing them. As she puts it people Xmas, bd and just plain shop without paying.
