Have you been to Filati Yarns in Rocklin and Rumplestiltskin in the R street bldg, downtown Sacramento. When I do get home to Sacramento mom and I spend Hrs/$ in Filati....Rumplestitltskin is also great. And I think she still teaches weaving and spinning....very 'earthy' store... |

WOW...Rocklin is my hometown!! I go back every 3 months for business...but I don't know where Filati Yarns is. Can you tell me where it is. I know the area VERY WELL (grew up there)...so you could say behind the galleria or in the Roseville square or Old Rocklin by the Safeway....and I'll know what you are talking about.
Thanks ~Wendy

i second caitlyn's suggestions. i LOVE filati's. probably because they have the most rowan selection and i absolutely love browsing their sale items. too bad rocklin is a bit of a drive. i'm closer to rumples (downtown sac) and in sheep's clothing (davis). and now babetta's (fair oaks) is among my favs too. =)

Have been around to all the shops mentioned. I meant Violet from Frog Pond on the forum here and love her shop she has put so much of herself into making this a comfortable place to go and sit and knit. I also like Filati's for the broad selection of yarns.

Before I learned to knit, we lived in Sacramento. Five years later, it looks like we will be moving back--a very useful thread to stumble onto!

Courtney....hopefully someone will send them this thread so the owner can see how you were treated and correct it in the future....I plan on visiting in January and I hope to have a better experience. Wendy

in my experience, not all LYS employees are all that warm and friendly and go out of their way to make sure you are ok. there are some stores that are VERY friendly (IMO, Frog Pond of Citrus Heights and In Sheep's Clothing in Davis are among them). and then there are others that aren't intentionally mean, but just pretty matter-of-fact and just do business as business. i find that those types of people have been knitters for years and years and don't especially target/cater specifically to new knitters in their shops. which is ok by me. i used to think the ladies at Rumplestiltskins (downtown Sac) weren't particularly friendly, but then i realized that and it wasn't personal and they still had great yarn (lots of wool blends). same with Filati's (who have a GREAT selection!!). the thing with new shops is that their selection is somewhat limited and is still growing (i heard that babetta's has been on the waitlist for brown sheep yarn for nearly a year! so sometimes it takes awhile i suppose). like for me, i'm a sucker for rowan yarn. tell me where it is, and i'm there.
Frog Ponds is special though because of their efforts of trying to make their store so very friendly and comfortable to hangout and knit in (great job violet!!)
... but not all yarn stores are like that, and that's ok. at least for me, i'm ok with it (as long as i can come out of it with great yarn)

Hi Everyone!
Thanks to all for the kind words, especially Courtney! I really appreciate it.
Don't forget that there is another new store in the Sacramento area. My Secret Stash is located in Carmichael and has many unique fibers. (I really want to check out her Bison yarn). Also, Elk Grove has two new stores, Knittique and The Yarn Shoppe.
I am glad to see that everyone has a favorite LYS, and will shop the others in the area. That's what keeps us in business!

I live in the Seattle, WA area and I go to Filati Yarns in Rocklin whenever I'm in the area. I loved the store when it was in the Bay area too. The people there, especially the owner, have always been terrific and even remember me between visits (which is months and months!). I highly recommend this shop. They have terrific yarns. For me, this shop is worth a trip to CA.
