I am thrilled, my mother went to Silver Dollar City (its a theme park located in southern Missouri which seems as if you have been transported to the 1800's) and they were having their annual craft festival. I went earlier in September and got a pound of gorgeous Merino and some soft alpaca. Well this time they had angora goat locks and my wonderful mom got me a pound of those too!! I've had a wonderful time carding it thus far (I do find, however, that the little bits of mohair that fly off when carding cause me a bit of itching and I need to wear long sleeves!!). Does anyone have a lot of expirience in spinning mohair? How is it best to spin (i.e. thin/thick/worsted etc.)? Lastly, does anyone know about how much yarn this would yield? Thanks in advance!!
I've washed mohair locks in hot water and dishwashing soap, much like wool, but since it isn't greasy, it is dirt/vm that you are washing out. The stuff I had went from a grayish color to a really nice white. You can card it with wool for spinning. There was another very recent thread about spinning straight mohair/mohair top.
