Sooo.... what is everyone's favorite online place to buy yarn? (I'm tired of searching through search engines!)

Jen, there's a "favorite links" thread on the forum. To see old AND new items, go to the drop-down box on the upper right side of the page and select an option greater than the 1-month default.

Hi Jennifer --
I like Elann ... they have really good prices. That's the one I visit the most.
Happy Knitting!

Hi, Jennifer: I think you just have to look around and see what suits you. I like to get things from Knit Picks, Ram Wool (in Canada) and Beehive to mention just a few. when I think of more I shall pass them on. Take care. Beverley

I've ordered from Elann and Smileys, both good prices and quick. There's not a lot on Smileys that I want, but they did have Plymouth Encore DK at a great price, so I bought a buncha that for hats. I'm very hestitant to buy without feeling first, so mostly what I buy on line is yarn I've bought previously.

Good morning, I have had good luck with Ram Wool in Canada, also Halcyon Yarns (expensive!!) Most of my purchases came from individuals, though, through Ebay, the Knit List and its sales lists and the Spin-List.

I find like so many others in the Boston area that no one can beat THE SNOW GOOSE YARN SHOP in Milton.

I agree with chris-- I need to feel the yarn before I'll buy it. I had a great experience with The Knitting Garden, though. I'd ordered deco-ribbon from another store to make a bag for my husband's aunt, but it was backordered and they never notified me. After playing phone tag with the original yarn store, I finally canceled the order and stumbled on The Knitting Garden on the internet. I placed my order, and it was at my house in 2 days (I didn't ask for rush delivery, they just did it). So now I think I like them quite a bit. I'll probably use them more, once I get through the giant mountain of yarn I already have!

| I agree with the excellent service provided by Elizabeth at the Knitting Garden. They are responsive and helpful and now one of my top three choices. I use Patternworks because they have everything but shipping is SLOW. Also Elann and others. |

My favorite is the first one I ever bought from, Knit Witts in Brookfield, MA. Dee Ann has always been helpful and courteous. Has always been prompt in answering questions. And has never steered me wrong. Just wish I had more yarn dollars to spend so I could buy something every month. For my books I prefer Knit Picks, good prices and free shipping over $30.00. 75% of my shopping is online because I have no LYS. Closet one is 30 minutes away, and it is only a corner not a full shop. Next closet is 2 1/2 hours away and then 3 hours and then 3 1/2 hours, all centered around Indianapolis, IN. My dream is to someday get to MA and visit Knit Witts in person!

My two standbys are Handworks Gallery (http:www.handworksgallery.com) and Yarnware (http://www.yarnware.com) Both have given excellent, prompt, and friendly service for years. My other favorite is Elann of course... but that's more like a crack house than a yarn store. (Someone please stop me!)

It's not that I'm a cheapskate, but I do have limited means. So...I LOVE R & M YARNS - out of Georgia. They sell yarn by the pound and have everything from extremely light weight to bulky - and some fabulous deals on mohair blends. The yarn comes on cones and is really good, plus they send you sample cards of EVERYTHING for $5 so you can play "touchy-feely" with everything before you buy. I, too, love Smiley's Yarns and have been ordering from them for years - even before they even went on line. Their specials are really SPECIAL! Good luck. Laurie (sunshinegal123) |

Jennifer,
My favorite is Sealed With A Kiss. They are so helpful and so prompt to reply with a personal e-mail or an order. Also, more importantly, they charge reasonable postage. If you order one skein of yarn or one set of needles, they charge whatever it cost to send it usually about $1.00. They do not put everything they have online but if you e-mail them with a question, they will let you know if they have it in stock. They will also help you to match colors, etc. I cannot say enough good things about these very down to earth folks.

Hi All,
I have found e-bay to be a great resource for yarn-buying. I have found coolest vintage knitting books and kits there. I also visit Red Bird Knits (Canada,) One Fine Yarn, and Camilla Valley Farm.

I'm one of those wo't buy unless I've felt it - Art Fibers excepted! I'm lucky to have lots of lys to shop at but when I'm too lazy to drive somewhere, I've had excellent service from Camilla Valley Farms, Ram Wools, and Beehive.

Hi everyone,
I have to say I, too have had excellent service from knitpicks!I ordered something that they listed as backordered..but I didn't need it right away, and the price was right, so I placed the order anyway. I had it within 10 days!I appreciate any company indicating if items are in stock, or backordered, that allows me to make the decision if I can wait for it or to order it somewhere else if i want it sooner. Anyway I highly recommend knitpicks!
Pamela :)

How do. As a knitter w/a number of LYSs in the area, I do only a bit of on-line ordering & have used C. Farms - they are fabulous! I have ordered a few times from them & am happy w/their products & service. Could you all who listed the Knitting Garden & Sealed with a Kiss & the others please list the links for them? It certainly would make it easier to access them & check out their products.

Okay, since it appears nobody's mentioned it yet (I scanned the thread fast, though) - www.yarnware.com is great - big selection, good sales, and I've never had anything lost in backorderland yet. Also www.onefineyarn.com is one of my faves, a great selection of Cascade 220 (very important to the felting addicted) and tons of other goodies, plus fast service and great sales. It's a toss-up between those two as to which has caused more damage to my VISA bill.

Hi, Jennifer: I thought of another one--the Wool Connection. One day I got home from work and there was a package from the Wool Connection and I hadn't a clue as to what I had ordered. I opened it it had point protecters, stitch counters, a retractable tape measure, ring stitch markers--all things I might have ordered and then I came across one, yes one skein of pink yarn. I knew this wasn't anything I ordered as I have never bought one skein of yarn in my life. My motto is don't buy just one, you might need more. I looked in my check register and couldn't find an entry to them. The next day I called and they remembered the order and that I had paid by check and when I told them I didn't have any record nor did I have a blank space for such the lady said I think we sent it to the wrong person. Well, my name isn't exactly uncommon so when I asked if I could perhaps deliver this to whomever thinking they might be here in San Francisco and if not I could always mail it for them I found out the person was in Salt Lake City. They were so delighted that I had called them. I returned the items to them (would have sent them on to Salt Lake) and can you believe this--they reimbursed me for the postage which I really wasn't expecting nor was it necessary. Because of this I like to get things from them when I can and if you get their print catalogue the have some very interesting things. Take care. Beverley

Does anyone buy their yarn at Micheals Craft Store, Beverly's Fabrics, or Joanne's Fabrics? If not, I'd like to know the reason. Thanks!
