I have at least 4 ounces of silk that is probably even smaller than dental floss but it is so amazingly soft, shiny and strong. Held 3 strands together it might be heavy enough for lace weight. So far I plan to hold it with another yarn to add sheen and interest. Any other ideas?

If it's that fine and you've got 4 oz, you've got roughly a gazillion yards... what about picking a lovely lace shawl and doing extra repeats?
I'd almost hate to hold it with something else, for fear of it getting lost, since it sounds so lovely.
Otherwise, maybe a fine angora or alpaca - something really lovely and exotic?

There was a booth somewhere at MDSW focused mainly on dying. She had a basket of stuff next to her cash box that I guess was supposed to be just samples of what you could dye I saw it and fell in love. It didn't have a tag and she laughed at me when I asked how much. She thought I was nuts but I've done thread crochet for years so she said "if you really want to torture yourself that much $10". I think it was the find of a lifetime.

Vi, You said you were looking for this type of thing, what are you going to do with it when you find it?

Vi, have you checked the weaving silks at yarn.com? Not a screaming bargain like Jayme found, but anyway they have them. Here's one; there are others: http://yarn.com/yarns/silk-202.html

You could always use it as a hold-along with a very fine kid mohair or down fiber and make an Orenburg-type scarf...
