I'm sure someone has posted about the 5 hour baby sweater (or 5HBS)in the past but I couldn't find it. I have 4 friends & family with babies expected this winter and it would be great to make them this quick sweater. I was curious about this pattern. I've found tons of versions from search engines but was wondering if anyone here has made any specific one. If so, did it work out okay and which pattern did you like the best? I would love some direction and links! Thanks!

I made this version: http://users.netaccess.co.nz/major/freepatt/patt01.htm
It was cute & easy & I liked it, but I wasn't absolutely crazy about it. It took me about 18 hours, but I was a very beginning knitter at the time. I made it out of one ball of Woolease, and the resulting fabric had great hand. I would make it again for someone if I wasn't very close to them or didn't have a ton of time on my hands.
I reccomend doing the seamless sleeve option, but making the sleeves slightly shorter than the pattern indicates. I finished the sleeves with a garter stitch cuff (this required purling in the round--ugh--but not much).

www.about.com this site has the fhbs, plus a booties pattern and bonnet pattern that match the 5hbs, they also have a sweet hooded version of the 5hbs.

I made the Lorraine Major version and used snaps instead of making buttonholes and it was very easy and quick. In fact I made 2 of them to match different outfits! one in a light variegated yarn and the other in white with l.blue garter stitch borders.

Wow, that hooded sweater is like one I was going to ask about. I had one that someone made for one of my children that zipped up the back. Someone mentioned having one of those the other day, how nice it was with the zipper in the back, and I wondered if anyone had a pattern like that. I have the 5HBS pattern, and almost didn't look at the posts, and now am glad I did!! Barb

I made this sweater it was easy for a beginner, I do not know if it will take 5 hours, but It may be possible. I made it over a week in about an hour each night. Plus it has a matching hat booties and a blanket. It is a really cute set. http://www.craftyarncouncil.com/projects/may_knitproject.html
