I have just plied some handspun (on turkish spindles) yarn that is a blend of 50% merino, 30% silk and 20% angora into approximately 144 yards of thick-and-thin "sort of" 2-ply dk weight yarn. Honestly, this was spun as thick-&-thin on purpose, because I think the bloom of the angora will work well for such; of course, yarn in uneven thickness is sometimes difficult to gauge. It's 4 ounces, so may be more worsted-weight than dk.

I was hoping for enough to make a soft cowl, such as the honey cowl, but it is not enough for that (or perhaps it is, with larger needles). I'd appreciate any ideas for using this yarn, preferably for a cowl or perhaps a slouchy hat, something knit a bit on the loose side. I'll definitely need to swatch!

I want to recommend http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/middle-beach-shawlette but it needs more yarn as well. Perhaps you could spin a contrast color and get more yardage?

http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/terrace-cowl is a good cowl, but I think that with homespun I prefer a simple stockinette

maybe http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/the-age-of-brass-and-steam-kerchief ? Not made as deep? this would show handspun off handsomely.

OOH maybe this.. b'c it would be such a luxury next to the neck http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/bandana-cowl
