Posted - 02/16/2011 : 8:10:05 PM We haven't talked a lot about Prism, the Florida-based hand-dyer that is mostly known for bright novelty yarns. The thing is, the colors (hand-dyed by Laura Militzer Bryant, who has a fine-arts background) really do have depth and nuance to them. Some err on the side of bright and tropical, but hey, she's in Florida. I wish I could be in the sunshine right now too.
Anyway, not only do they offer textured stuff, but they also have a very good line of more classically spun yarns. And that's what I review this week, a super poofy S-on-S cabled Merino called Merino 12--I assume because it's made of 12 strands of two-ply yarn that are all plied together.
Has anyone else tried this one yet? What's your take on the poofy S-on-S cabled yarns in general? Too big? Just right?

Posted - 02/17/2011 : 09:31:06 AM I love the way the swatch looks, and the colours are great, but there isn't one named for Marge Simpson's famous bouffant! Looking at my action figures, the Simpsons' colour palette is a bit different from Laura Militzer Bryant's, but just as super-colouriffic as Merino-12's more tropical brights.

Posted - 02/17/2011 : 08:04:26 AM This yarn is beautiful and I want some! As to patterns: May I recommend the cowl I recently designed, available for free on Ravelry? http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/winter-wildflowers-cowl

Posted - 02/17/2011 : 05:55:28 AM I haven't tried it, but the photo of your swatch had me imagining a quick knit, top-down raglan sweater that would become a favorite, much like a comfy sweatshirt. Only prettier and better.

Posted - 02/16/2011 : 8:47:28 PM I haven't tried this yarn yet but I would give my entire stash for some warm weather. Seriously, I do love merino yarns so this looks interesting to me.
