I was at Michael's tonight and saw this for the first time. $90 US in these parts.

Does anyone have one? Just wondering if it might be a worthwhile purchase. I was eyeballing a wooden, crank-it-yourself version capable of winding larger balls than my old Royal winder, but wonder about this.

Anybody know anything?

I have one and I'm still undecided. It's been a while though so I'd have to get it out again to see why! Seems like it wouldn't wind a big hank of yarn...not enough room. Plus it was hard to use the swift and keep it going without pulling it by hand. It wasn't strong enough to keep the swift turning.

I think it's Hobby Lobby where you can use the coupons on books and magazines.

I'll stick with my hand-cranked one for now, but there sure are times when I'm winding yarn with no assistants around and not enough hands to do everything efficiently!

I have one and love it. I too bought it with Michaels 40% off coupon. I was waiting for them to say it wasn't eligible but it was yay. (As an aside can you use your coupons on books in the US?)

Anyway back to topic. I loved it on first use but then found I wasn't completely happy with the "balls" it produced. So I have practised with the tensioning of the yarn between my fingers and now am quite pleased with the shape of the cakes.

I, too, saw it and thought the price was -- ugh. Even with the 40% off coupon I'll have to think about it.

Nice to read about it though from someone with first hand knowledge. Noise would not bother me as Mimi's my Hearing Dog. There's a lot I don't hear but, of course, that doesn't stop me from knitting.

A hand crank one that lasted 35 years?!!?? What kind??

I bought one with my Joann's 40% off coupon a few months ago and like it. It is a little noisy but it winds nice, neat balls and is easy to use. I now use it much more than my old hand crank one from 35+ years ago.
