"I only recently started knitting (and am hooked, of course) and have used these (Susan Bates) needles more than any others. I haven't yet tried plastic or bamboo needles but I have tried wood needles. In fact, once in boredom I used pencils and REALLY old yarn (probably 30 years old!) just to see if it would work. (Only sort of) The thing that I love about these needles is that the yarn slides VERY easily on them (sometimes too easily!) and this is a HUGE help because I tend to knit a little tightly and at the points of the needles. Because the yarn slides very easily I can still pull off stitches that were too tight and (if I notice that the stitch is too tight when I stitch it) can slide the stich back and forth on the needle easily to loosen it."
