Knitter's Review
August 1, 2013

No matter where I go, I always seek out the nearest local yarn shop when I travel—and I suspect you do too. Some shops are smack dab in the center of tourist hubs, others take you off the beaten path and into cozy neighborhoods where you begin to get a real feeling for the place.

And so it was that, during a family trip to Paris last week, I found myself wandering a neighborhood I'd never explored before, Butte-aux-Cailles. Up a steep hill I went, around a corner I turned, and just as I was wondering if I'd taken a wrong turn, I saw it: L'Oisive Thé.

This combination yarn store and tea room was opened five years ago by Aimee, an American expat who was tired of stuffing her suitcases with indie-dyed yarns every time she visited her parents back in Kansas. Want to peek inside?

Knitter's Review Retreat Registration This Friday
It's almost here! On Friday August 2nd at 12 noon EST, I'll be opening up registration for the 12th-annual Knitter's Review Retreat. It takes place November 7-10 at the Inn on the Lake in Canandaigua, New York, and you can find all the details here. I hope you'll join us!

Cotton Comeback
For more than 30 years, Sally Fox has been a pioneer in naturally colored cotton. This year she wants to get her breeding program back up and running, and she needs our help. More about Sally and what you can do.

Upcoming Events
Normally, it's a little tricky to get a private tour of the last commercially operating spinning mule in the United States. But this Friday and Saturday, August 2 and 3, Bartlett Yarns is holding its annual open house. Pack a picnic lunch and head up to Harmony, Maine, for the day. You'll see gorgeous old equipment that's still in perfect running order, and, of course, you'll get a chance to visit the mill shop across the street.

In the Forums: Favorite Faraway Finds?
I know I'm not the only one to hit the LYS whenever she goes anywhere. This week I invite you to tell us all about your favorite LYS discoveries while traveling.
